QR Codes do they work? Are they dead?
The other day after a few wines a the topic of QR codes came up. The table had more than its fair share of marketers and designers there…The topic was pretty much do they work? Does anyone use them?
Of the eight people at the table not one had a QR reader on their phone, but three were guilty of actually creating a marketing strategy around them. Did the marketing strategy work?
The answer was not really- as part of the strategy of the various campaigns EDM’s and SEM had a lot better pull.
Is it common sense? Apparently less than 18% of the phone wielding population have a QR scanner on their phone, that pretty much reduces your market in a rather large chunk. Then there is the CBA crowd ( couldnt be asked)….”you want me to download a reader? To get to you website/whatever it is you are trying to sell me? Um no thanks!”
User experience should be applied the same way- imagine asking someone to download a reader to get to your content on the web?
Unless there is a reader in built the table consensus was that they are going nowhere…..lets see what happens in 2015.
